Zilmie, 20, (May 7, 1999) wants to go to school to become an office secretary / administrator. She would also like to take English lessons. She finished high school last year and is excited for what her future has to offer. Zilmie’s parents live in La Guanave, another city in Haiti, so she has been living with her aunt and cousins for the past seven years. She is the oldest of her cousins and she enjoys helping to take care of them. Zilmie is always willing to go the extra mile to help others.

GEORGES SHAMA
Shama 7, (January 29, 2012) lives in a beautiful home with her mother, baby sister, Victoria, and cousins Zilmie and Naika. She is in the 3rd grade and loves her teachers because they are nice. She is doing well in school. In fact, math is her favorite subject and she wants to become a doctor when she is older. She really enjoys learning to speak English. It is her dream. Shama and her family have been living in their new home for the past five months and now they have more space to play.

Jean Marc, 19 (January 4, 2000), is in the 10th grade. He lives with sister, niece and nephew. He enjoys playing soccer in his free time and he wants to be a mechanic when he finishes high school. Jessica 21, (November 28, 1998) says her favorite color is white. White is peaceful and pure. Her favorite food is rice and chicken. Jessica loves to play music. She can play the drums well. Jessica is attending professional school to learning tiling and ceramics. She enjoyed a class where she learned window maintenance and she is interested in learning to speak English. FRANCOIS KERCHELINE
Kercheline, 16, (May 16, 2003), is in the 5th grade. She lives with her sister, brother in law and three nephews. Her mother lives in Port-au- Prince, Haiti and was unable to care for Kercheline in her home with her other siblings. Her favorite school subject is French because she likes to speak multiple languages. In Haiti, French is formal and kids learn it in school as their second language. Kercheline goes to school in the afternoons so that she can help take care of her nephews during the day while her sister works. She is a seller. Kercheline also likes to sing and would like to practice medicine. Her current dream is to create the possibility to move back home with her mother.

Jean El Varldanio 18, (September 18, 2001) lives with his mother and new born son in home with 12 other people, including his aunt, cousins, uncle and others. He shares a room with his mother. He is in the 12th grade. Varldanio aspires to become a social technologist and a politician. He doesn’t agree with the way his nation is being run and he plans to change it. LA FLUTE DARLINE
Darlene, 14, (November 20, 2005), is in the 4th grade. She enjoys both, her Creole and math classes. You can find Darlene dancing all the time. When she grows up, she wants to be a police officer, and with the political situations in Haiti growing stronger each day, the police force needs a dedicated person such as Darlene to defend their community.

Olivier, 10 (April 18, 2009), is a really happy 6th grader. He enjoys studying French because it comes natural to him. Olivier lives with his mom in a one bedroom home. He has many friends and loves to visit with them in his community. He enjoys playing soccer and other sports games, but he is a really great soccer player. He attends church with his mother and is a part of the youth ministry. When Olivier grows up, he wants to be an aviator.

Jerry Royer, 18, (June 9, 2001) lives with his Aunt Resia in beautiful house close to the main road of Carrefour, Haiti. The house is finely decorated with antiques and is always clean. Jerry excels in school and he loves English and social science. He has a scholarship and he is in the 11th grade. Jerry dreams of of becoming fluent in English and he wants to attend university in Chicago, Illinois to become a mechanical engineer.

Fither Siralon, 14, (August 19, 2005) is in the eighth grade, where he excels in math. He says he will become a doctor when he is older. Fither has two little sisters for whom he takes great responsibility for. He, his mother, his sisters and step father live in one bedroom in a family house, but they are planning to build a house for themselves. Amongst the twelve people living in the house are Fither’s aunt, uncle and cousins. He is happy and grateful that he is not sick and has food to eat every day. He would soon like to attend an academy for soccer.

Vixama, 21 (October 18, 1998), is in the 9th grade. Although he struggles in school, he really wants to finish his schooling so that he can close that chapter in his life and better himself. Vixama has a passion for soccer. His dream is to be a soccer player that can travel from place to place. He desires to play in Maine in The United States. Vixama likes to work on cars and do paint jobs when he can find them. He lives with two friends in an apartment and is becoming more independent since he left the orphanage. His father is somewhere in Haiti, but he is unable to provide for Vixama.

ZEPHIRIN VANESSA
Vanessa, 16, (May 25, 2003), is in the 4th grade. She and eight others, including her grandmother, her mother, cousins, uncle and a new baby who they have taken in, have been living in a new home for the past eight months. Her grandmother is a beautiful soul who is concerned about the safety of all who enter into her home. There is a history of mental illness in her family, and although she too, struggles in school, Vanessa is dedicated to trying, to learning new things and to continuing her education. Her favorite subject is mathematics and she spends a lot of time doing extra math prep. Her uncle is a school teacher and she would like to follow that path. Vanessa wants to be a kindergarten teacher because she loves children. She enjoys talking with her friends and spending time outside.

OCCILUS LINEDA
Lineda, 21, (January 1, 1998), finished high school and is in her second year of professional school for hotelerie. She is kind and enjoys the customer service business. Lineda and her mother live together in a small house. Her sisters have moved out. She is the assistant dance instructor for the youth dance ministry at her church and she takes pride in teaching the young girls Haitian style Christian dance. Lineda is passionate and hard working. You can often find her smiling and taking pictures with her friends. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite food is corn.

Samuel, 17, (August 14, 2002), is a kind teenager who has not been granted many opportunities. He has not attended school for the past couple of years, but this year his sponsorship will cover his fees and he is excited to start the 3rd grade. Samuel is currently living with his mother in one room. He has his own mattress because his little brother left to go live with his father. Samuel enjoys playing basketball and he wants to train to be a police officer when he finishes school. His favorite color is blue and he likes to eat rice with bean sauce and vegetables.

PHANOR MIKE
Smiley, “Mike,” 9, (October 18, 2010), is currently in the first grade. This is his first year at a new school because he recently moved to live with his father and step mother. He misses his mother and grandmother, but they are local and he is able to visit them. At Mike’s new house, he has a lot of space to play and a lot of children to play with. Mike loves to play soccer and you can often find him exploring around the community. In the future, Mike wants to be a doctor!

Yndjyna, 7, (December 2, 2011), lives with her grandmother and aunt who raise her together as their daughter. She lives in a home where she loves to take responsibility for helping to cook and clean. Her grandmother is a great chef and Yndjyna enjoys learning her way around the kitchen. She is in the 4th grade and also enjoys learning at school. Landeline, 8, (June 29, 2011), is a first grader who absolutely loves to dance. She lives with her mother, older brother, and adult cousin. Landeline is creative and she enjoys reading and art. Rolando, 12 (June 9, 2007), is an avid soccer lover. He plays at a local soccer club and enjoys playing soccer on the streets with his friends and cousin. He says he is always happy because he has the opportunity to play every day. It is his dream to own a play station so he can even practice while he’s at home. Neri, 7, (October 16, 2012) lives in a home with his parents, aunts and sisters. There are eight people, total, that live in his home. Neri’s grandmother comes over often and cares for him and his siblings while his parents are out. His mother is a seller and his father is a traveling artist. Neri is in the second grade. Although he has not studied it in school yet, Neri loves agronomy and would like to farm at some point in his life. In school, he likes math because he likes to calculate numbers. He enjoys working on cars and playing with planes. He says he wants to work hard! As a profession, Neri would like to be a pilot.
