What did we accomplish?

It was a wonderful, small team this time that Journeyed back to Haiti, a country that is still struggling to rebuild after the earthquake that crushed their nation in 2010.  We went with a heart to undertake practical building projects in Carrefour Love Community Home - plumbing for the upstairs bathroom, adding the first clean running water; and in Bouvier School -the addition of an upstairs teacher residence and clinic! We also worked with the Bouvier teachers on educational Teacher Training; we visited the children at Love Community Home, played with them, prayed for them and updated their progress and information.

• Get ready to work and serve into communities still devastated by poverty, the cholera epidemic and the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. 
  
• The city streets are crowded and many buildings are still in ruins, although much rebuilding is being done. Still over 1 million people are displaced.
• The sanitation level is still desperate in many areas.
• The showers are cold, and up in Bouvier, the showers are the outdoor    'al fresco' style and the toilet is a pit-toilet. 
• It is essential for water to be boiled or treated for drinking and we eat simple, rice-based food (although we do eat some western packaged and canned food if available). 
  
• The Journey to Bouvier school will be a 3-hour, four-wheel-drive Journey followed by a 6-hour trek over two mountains and two rivers. You need to have a good fitness level and a be in excellent health.
• At Bouvier, we sleep in tents inside the school. BYO tents, mattress, sleeping gear / pillow etc
  

What's covered by the Ground Costs?

The ground cost donation covers everything you need from the moment you arrive until the moment you depart. That includes all water, food, ground transportation, accommodation in Carrefour (BYO tent etc for Bouvier), translators, t-shirts & much more. Also, included in the donation is a portion of the project building expenses (this portion tax-deductible). You will be directly helping to fund part of the community projects our team will be undertaking while there.
