TWO LIGHTS, ONE VISION: Bouvier School and The Lantern Project Shine as Beacons of Sustainable Hope — 2026-27

Beautiful family and friends,
As we close out the 2025-26 EOFY and the Haiti school year, our hearts are overflowing. For over fifteen years, we have walked this road with our leaders, teachers, families and children - through earthquakes, gang violence, displacement, and devastating hurricanes -  and yet, through it all, light keeps breaking through the darkness in Haiti.
This year, we want to shine a spotlight on two of our most treasured, and now even more sustainable, projects: Bouvier Community School in the Bouvier Mountains and The Lantern Project in Cavaillon. Both carry the same quiet strength at their core - community leaders rising up, in partnership with us, to carry their own light forward.

A Healthy Nonprofit GRADUALLY Works Itself Out of a JoB

Picture
We've said it before, and this year we get to celebrate it in a way we never have before:  a healthy nonprofit is one that is actively working itself out of a job. For over a decade, our partnership with Haitian NGO Light for Living International Ministries (LIFLIM) — led by the incredible Pastors Reginald and Johanne Celestin — has been built on three simple commitments: we ask before we aid, we find the real heroes, and we evaluate our impact. This coming year, with your continued support, we are empowering families and communities to become even more self-sustaining.

BOUVIER SCHOOL — Handed Back to the Community it Serves

Picture
Picture
For those who have followed our Bouvier journey - from 2012, when I first met four local Haitian teachers and 60 children who were holding school in a derelict building in their mountain community, through to the launch of the Bouvier School Community Committee (SCC) in 2025 - you will know this journey has been a long and devoted one.
We are very excited to announce that the Bouvier community has now formally registered its own community association — ADESEB (Association for the Economic, Social and Educational Development of Bouvier) — with the Haitian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour. ADESEB will be the community body of teachers and parents that will now fully administer and govern Bouvier School: its staffing, programs, and day-to-day operations, led by the community, for the community.

This is precisely the outcome we have hoped and prayed for since we first began supporting the school over fifteen years ago. Frontier Projects Inc. and LIFLIM have formalised this new chapter with the Bouvier Community which will ensure that:
  • ADESEB governs, LIFLIM and Frontier Projects Inc. step back from all decision-making.
  • Sponsorship continues, on a school-year to school-year basis, with the number of sponsored students agreed each year before the new school year begins.
  • Safeguards remain firmly in place — Principal Jackson Volcy reports monthly to LIFLIM Co-CEO Johanne Celestin on the school's administration and progress, ensuring your generosity continues to be stewarded well.
We are so proud of Jackson and every one of Bouvier's teachers, who have poured themselves into this community for years and are now stepping into an even greater season of local ownership and leadership.

None of this would be possible without our incredible partners who have walked alongside Bouvier for years:
  • GOLDEN EGG HOME LOANS, Australia — thank you, Max and the team, for your ongoing faithful support.
  • iNSPIRED EDUCATION, Australia — thank you, Rashan, for continuing to turn workshops into sponsorships for so many Bouvier students.
  • And to every sponsor who has continues to give so that a child in Haiti can have the gift of education - this moment also belongs to you too.

THE LANTERN PROJECT — Light Rising in Cavaillon

Picture
When Hurricane Melissa devastated Cavaillon this past year, we watched with heavy hearts - and yet, even amidst the wreckage, The Lantern Project has become one of our brightest stories of hope.
Born out of the necessary closure of our Love Family Homes program in Carrefour (a decision made for the safety of our LIFLIM staff amid targeted gang violence),
The Lantern Project relocated our work to the safer region of Cavaillon, under Johanne Celestin's leadership. Families here face deep food and educational insecurity — and this year, sponsors have stepped up for 8 identified families, providing children with daily hot meals and an education at Cavaillon School.
Like Bouvier, The Lantern Project is built on partnership with parents and teachers, not dependency. We don't do it for these families — we do it with them. Watching this new program take root, even after a hurricane, is a testament to the resilience of the Cavaillon community and the faithfulness of LIFLIM's leadership on the ground.

And the Rest of OUR HAITI Family — Still Shining BrighT

Picture
Love Community Home (LCH) continues to be a place of deep belonging for our LCH youth - they are no longer children! This year we celebrated Isaac Jeune's return to his own family, and Christelle's new chapter as she turned 18 and left to live with her partner. Our social worker Yndjy Belval is now employed 100% by Frontier Projects to support LCH full-time, working alongside our beloved House Mother, Merline Vincent.

We remain endlessly grateful to Hatchlings Early Learning Group in Queensland, Australia — Rachel Langford and the whole team — for continuing to fund the education of every child at LCH.

Our Ambassador — Michael CrosslanD

I could not close this blog update without pausing to thank our extraordinary Ambassador, Michael Crossland. For years, Michael's love, advocacy, and unwavering support have opened doors, hearts, and others' generosity for the children of Haiti. Mike - you have helped light up so many, many lives. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

To Our Faithful Sponsors and TeaM

To every single sponsor and supporter who has walked this journey with us - some of you for over fifteen years — this update, this progress, this sustainability, belongs also to you. You have never just given funds; you have given dignity, opportunity, and hope: one child at a time.
With all our love, gratitude, and hope for the year ahead,
Cheryl and John Ward
and the entire Frontier Projects Haiti Team
